If you are puchasing oils, my favorite brand is by Charvin Colors available exclusively at Jerry's Artarama. Another good Jerry's brand is Lukas, or Richeson oils (available at Jerry's on line). If you need to use Acrylics, check out the Matisse Structure line, or Lukas brand is also at Jerry's.
OIL PAINTS:
• Alizarin Crimson (or Magenta/Rubine Lake- Charvin)
• Cadmium Red Light or Medium (French Red Lt-Charvin)
• Cad Yellow, Cad Yellow Light or (French Primary Yellow- Charvin)
• Ultramarine Blue (a must)
• Magnesium Blue or Cerulean (Hue OK) - Charvin brand comes in a large tube
• Titanium White

ACRYLIC PAINTS -

• For Beginner Classes & Nuts and Bolts: A variety of canvas or canvas panels (cost less)
6 x 8, 8 x 10, 9 x 12 or 11 x 14. You can also purchase canvas pads. PLEASE NO CANVAS LARGER THAN 12 X 16 IN THE BEGINNER WORKSHOPS.
• Intermediate or advanced classes: Work within your canvas size comfort zone
• Several brushes in a variety of sizes (natural bristle for oils), for example sizes 2, 4, 6, & 8 square and filbert. Jerry's has great sales on these brushes: ProStroke Premium White Bristols and the Creative Mark series.
• Wood or Disposable paper palette , 9 x 12 or 12 x 16 (Note: Watercolor palettes not recommended for oils and plastic plates don’t work at all for oil painting.
• For Oil: Gamblin Gamasol
• A jar to hold your solvent or water painting medium.
• Paper Towels
•Apron or smock
• In some classes you are required to bring you own easel.
• Please make sure you have a carboard box, paper or newspaper to protect your car when you take you paintings home
