Take The Fear Out of Figurative - Winter Dates to come

If you've ever wanted to try your hand at figures, capture gestures, put people in your scenes or just focus on the beauty of a pose, then this workshop the perfect starting point and will help take the fear out of painting figures!

Nicole's fun and energetic approach to teaching figures combines starting with loose gestures, quick studies working up to painting a full figure from  a costumed model. Students who are intimidated painting figures are amazed at how much they learn and become more confident! Nicole Kennedy's figurative works have won awards with organizations; American Impressionist Society,  National Oil & Acrylic Painters, Oil Painters of America Regional & Women Painters of the Southeast. In 2017 Nicole was awarded  "Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society".

Things we will cover in this workshop
• First day from a model, second day from a photo (of the model) - day 2 we will use a photo of the model from day 1
• Using simple lines and technique to get the structure and attitude warm-up exercises
• Practicing skin tones mixtures which comes in handy when painting from a photo later
• Understanding the shapes that make up light and shadow on the figure to crate form
• Getting the proportions correct in your renderings
• Value and color will be discussed throughout the painting process.

First Day - Paint from the model - 10 am -  4pm
2nd day - paint from your photos of the model 10am - 3pm

SUPPLIES:

EASELS: Please bring a portable easel and a way to hold your palette - or bring a TV tray. Gallery does NOT carry art supplies

CANVAS:  Preferred canvas sizes  14 x 18 - 16 x 20. Bring about 4 canvases or canvas panels and tone one of them mid-tone gray or mid tan.

PALETTE: Please bring an appropriate sized palette to work from, preferably 12 x 16 container with lid with wax palette paper available everywhere

BRUSHES: If you are working in oil or acrylic: Flats and/or filberts variety of sizes. For oils bristol or rigid synthetic preferable - acrylic can use synthetic. Bring a palette knife for mixing.

SOFT RAGS to wipe paint off  canvas (like a ripped t-shirt)

Nicole uses these  Suggested Paints:  Whatever you are used to working with.

Ultramarine Blue
Titanium White
Cadmium Yellow,( or Hansa Yellow or Cad yellow Light)
Cadmium Red, (or Napthol red or light or Pyrrol red)
Alizarin Crimson ( or Magenta or Quinacridone magenta)
Viridian (and/or Manganese Blue –hue OK)
Transparent earth tone take your pick of 1 : Transparent Red Oxide/brown oxide, Burnt Umber, Vandyke brown

Optional Others:
Shiva yellow citron (by Richeson)
Cadmium Orange
Prussian Blue

Brush cleaner: Gamsol ONLY. Smock
